Visit October through April. This is Big Bend’s dry season, with the clearest, most reliable night skies — summer brings heat that can be genuinely brutal in the desert.
Stock up before you arrive. Terlingua and the surrounding area are remote — the nearest full grocery and gas options are a real drive away, so fill up and pack in what you need.
Bring layers for the dome. Desert days can be warm, but temperatures drop fast after sunset — the same clear skies that make for great stargazing also mean nights cool quickly.
