Why Kissimmee Prairie Preserve
Kissimmee Prairie Preserve is Florida’s first International Dark Sky Park, recognized in 2016, and remains one of the last places in the state genuinely untouched by light pollution. The 54,000-acre preserve protects the largest remaining stretch of Florida dry prairie, a rare ecosystem home to grasshopper sparrows, crested caracaras, and burrowing owls, with the Milky Way visible to the naked eye on clear nights.

Plan your visit around the new moon. Stargazing is at its most dramatic when moonlight isn’t washing out the Milky Way.
Remember the park closes at sunset. Camping overnight is genuinely the only way to experience the dark sky here, since day-use ends when the sun goes down.
Watch for wild turkeys and deer. They’re regularly spotted right around the glamping tents, especially at dawn and dusk.
